Wha…?

Can this be so?

My beloved WordPress, the blogger site of choice, the one that I ranted and raved about, the one I keep persuading others to join, and this is how it treats me?

I just spent the last two hours writing up a really good personal post.  The best heart dump in a long while and WordPress didn’t save it for some reason.  I think my connection timed out, but I never got any warning about it.

*sigh*

I’ll try to write it up again tomorrow.

My Header

sf

I decided to keep my header.

The colors clash, but I like it.

It’s my blog, so there.

Importing Blogger Posts

I just imported all of my archives from blogger. It’s such a simple process on WordPress! I will seriously get you the pros-cons list out soon. I really like WordPress A LOT. :)

Header 2

I’m officially obsessed with personalizing my blog.

I took down the Big Sur pic and put up this pic of the Golden Gate Bridge.  But this was after about 6 other variations between then and now!  LOL.  This current pic is nice, but the colors still don’t go with the blog.  Hmm….!  I’m tempted to change the template to get a more color-friendly style.  I wish WordPress had a feature where you could keep the template but modify the colors.  For now I won’t change the template because I’m worried it’ll mess up all the settings I’ve spent so much time on.  Maybe this is something I can send to the “feedback” feature.  Another plus about WordPress…it seems requests and suggestions are actually taken and implemented through the support team here.

I guess I’ll leave this one up for now and change it later.

It’s actually been a lot of fun seeing how creative I can be with the limitations I’ve got.  Sifting through my pics to use for my blog header has also been fun.  I totally forgot about some of the fun and crazy things I’ve done in San Francisco over the years.

Cable Car Caroling at Christmas

Corn Maze at Halloween

French cooking class on Valentine’s Day with just the girl friends

Fourth of July Fireworks at the Embarcadero/Oakland

Sailing around SF Bay/Monterey/Santa Cruz

Bon Fires in Santa Cruz

Hiking, Kayaking, Biking… Museums, Plays, Dancing…Bars, Clubs, Lounges…

Crepe parties, Dessert parties, Wine Tasting, Food Festivals, Grilling, Croquet…

…The list goes on.

Good times, indeed.  :D

Header

Hmm….I’m trying out new headers on this blog.

This current one is a cropped photo I took while in Big Sur.  Can you see the tiny people in it?

The pic is pretty, but it doesn’t really go with the overall theme of this template.  I’ve got two options…pic another template or change the header again.  Hmmm…..!

I’ll leave it up for a few days and see if it grows on me.

Ok, I Take That Back!

One of those ironies of posting here…

I did manage to figure out how to take down a post without having to delete it completely.  The functions here aren’t as intuitive as eblogger.  I guess I could have just deleted the previous post altogether and none of you would have known better, but what’s the fun in that?  ;)

Given this recent technical issue, the one MAJOR positive for WordPress is it’s member’s forum.  I don’t know if eblogger has such a thing, I never really had a need for it on that site, but WordPress has a great function that allows you to discuss technical issues (or any issues, really) with fellow bloggers.  I posted my question about the ‘re-saving as draft’ and within a matter of minutes, someone answered my question.

And, I must say, I already used this forum once before in order to get my stat counter working properly.  Apparently you can’t run all or any types of stat counters on this site, and the one that they suggest using actually has a few technical work-arounds to get it going.  Thanks to the user forum I got it working!

I’ll get that pros and cons list out to you soon enough.

Hope you’re having pleasant dreams!

Resaving As Draft Is Fu-tile!

Did anyone catch that corny Star Trek reference in my title?  I don’t remember which Star Trek movie it was (Wrath of Kahn??) where someone stated, “Resistance is fu-tile”.  Yeah, I am a geek like that. :P

I’ll have to put together a comprehensive pros and cons list for all of you who are considering migrating to WordPress from eblogger or vice versa, because now that I’ve been using the tool more I am finding some significant differences.  I’ll save the list for a later post.

Tonight I discovered a major con about WordPress:  the inability to take down a post without deleting it.  Looks like once a post is published, unlike eblogger, you can’t just resave the post as a draft if you decided that you don’t want the world to see what you’ve written.  Your only option is to delete the post altogether, which in my opinion is a big negative about this site.

That’s my one gripe tonight as I am still getting used to all the functions here.

Good night all!
